If she wasn’t already before, A’ja Wilson became the unanimous best basketball player in the world in 2025.

The Las Vegas Aces star center became the first player in WNBA history to win a WNBA championship, WNBA Finals MVP, WNBA MVP, and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season (via ESPN).

The Aces won their third title in four years, and Wilson became the league’s first-ever four-time MVP.

Players like that never hit the open market.

But the WNBA and WNBPA finally signed a term sheet for a new collective bargaining agreement, and over 100 players will become unrestricted free agents next week. Players had intentionally only signed contracts through the 2025 season in anticipation of a new CBA.

As is expected to be the case for stars league-wide, it’s just a formality for Wilson.

“I know exactly where I am,” Wilson said at Team USA training camp, per Front Office Sports’ Annie Costabile and The New York Post‘s Madeline Kenney. “I know I love Vegas. I’m not leaving Vegas, so I’m not looking anywhere. I’m looking to win another one. I’m looking to defend a championship.”

On March 18, Las Vegas Review-Journal Aces beat reporter Callie Fin reported that Wilson is “expected to re-sign” with the Aces “on the historic new WNBA supermax salary of $1.4 million as soon as possible.”

The WNBA’s official release confirmed that the new supermax contract will start at $1.4 million in 2026, and the league’s salary cap will start at $7 million. Both marks are a significant increase from the 2025 totals.

The WNBA’s 30th season will tip off on May 8. The Aces will open against the Phoenix Mercury in a 2025 WNBA Finals rematch on May 9.
