From one gold medalist to another, American figure skater Alysa Liu had the honor of receiving her own personal message on Thursday from NBA superstar and fellow Olympic gold medalist Stephen Curry.
Curry, who has represented the Golden State Warriors for his entire career, seemed like a fitting person to acknowledge what Liu accomplished at the Winter Games in Milan over the last few weeks when she was honored in Oakland, where she grew up and still calls home.
“Alysa, congratulations on your gold medal achievement, representing not only the United States but the Bay Area — Oakland. Super proud,” Curry said. “Congratulations, you did that. From one gold medal winner to another, I just want to say keep doing your thing and keep representing the Bay — and we love you.”

She also received a message from Warriors head coach Steve Kerr.
“Alysa, I just want to say congratulations,” Kerr said. “That was so incredible to watch. The whole Bay Area is so proud of you, and everybody with the Warriors was watching and pulling for you and so excited. So thanks for representing the Bay and making us so proud.”
Curry, 37, elected to join the Olympic team for the first time during 2024 Summer Games in France, while Kerr served as the team’s head coach, marking the first Olympic gold for Curry and Kerr’s first as head coach.
Liu, on the other hand, was also able to work with her Team USA teammates to claim gold this winter, but she also captured a second gold in the women’s free skate final — a singles event — which truly took her fame and popularity, already quite high, to a completely different level.
