An Amber Alert has been issued in Southern California after authorities reported the abduction of a 3-month-old infant, triggering a statewide emergency notification and an urgent search effort.
Authorities in California issued the Amber Alert after determining the infant’s disappearance met the strict criteria for a child abduction emergency, signaling that the child is believed to be in immediate danger and prompting a rapid, statewide public notification. The alert is designed to mobilize residents as extra eyes and ears for law enforcement by quickly sharing descriptions of the child, suspect, and any associated vehicle across phones, television, and highway signs, with officials urging anyone who spots relevant information to contact 911 immediately.
The alert was broadcast through the emergency notification system on Friday evening on behalf of the California Highway Patrol and Alhambra Police Department in Southern California. It was activated after Cayden Ramey, a 3-month-old boy, was taken from Alhambra, California, at around 5:25 p.m. local time.
Ramey is described as Hispanic, 21 inches tall, weighing approximately 17 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes. He is believed to be wearing a blue long-sleeve shirt and green sweatpants.
The suspect is an unknown Hispanic male, standing 5 feet 10 inches tall, with black hair and brown eyes, the Alhambra Police Department said. The suspect is believed to be wearing a black shirt, a black backpack, and blue and black pants.
The suspect was last seen driving a 2015 black Honda Civic with California license plate number 7KFZ167.
Law enforcement officials asked the public to call 911 immediately if they see the vehicle or recognize the individuals involved.
Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the abduction. Newsweek reached out to the Alhambra Police Department by phone for comment late Friday night.

What is an Amber Alert?
An Amber Alert, short for “America’s Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response,” is a public warning system used across the United States to quickly notify communities about serious child abduction cases.
The system is activated by law enforcement when specific criteria are met, including confirmation that a child under 17 has been abducted and is believed to be in imminent danger of serious injury or death.
Once issued, the alert disseminates critical details about the child, suspected abductor, and any associated vehicle across a wide range of platforms. These notifications appear on smartphones through Wireless Emergency Alerts, interrupt television and radio broadcasts, and display on roadside electronic signs to reach as many people as possible.
The goal is to enlist the public’s help in the critical early hours of an abduction, giving law enforcement additional eyes and ears to aid in locating missing children and apprehending suspects.
Since its creation, the Amber Alert system has been credited with helping recover more than 1,000 children across the United States.
Officials emphasized that such alerts are time-sensitive, often deployed within hours of an abduction to maximize the chances of safely recovering a child.
