AMD’s most capable mobile gaming chip has found a new home. Announced at Computex 2026, the refreshed Acer Nitro 16 (AN16-A91) is the first laptop in Acer’s entire gaming lineup to offer the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D – a distinction that matters quite a bit given what that processor brings to the table.
AMD markets the 9955HX3D as the world’s fastest mobile gaming processor, and the claim has some substance behind it. The chip carries sixteen cores of Zen 5 architecture backed by an additional 64MB of L3 cache courtesy of AMD’s second-generation 3D V-Cache.
Across 29 games tested at 1080p, the 9955HX3D averaged 16% faster frame rates than its nearest competition, with 17 of those titles showing at least a 10% lead and AMD delivering a 17% improvement in 1% lows.
The extra cache doesn’t just pad benchmark sheets – it cuts memory latency in ways that translate directly into smoother, more consistent gameplay.
What the Nitro 16 Actually Gets You
The Nitro 16 tops out at a mobile RTX 5070 Ti on the GPU side, with buyers able to choose between the standard Ryzen 9 9955HX or the 3D V-Cache-equipped 9955HX3D.
That RTX 5070 Ti brings 12GB of GDDR7 VRAM, and the combination of a cache-heavy CPU and an NVIDIA Blackwell GPU is genuinely competitive hardware for a laptop that sits below Acer’s flagship Predator tier.
The display is a 16-inch WQXGA panel running at 2560×1600 with 100% sRGB coverage, up to a 240Hz refresh rate, and a 3ms response time. Memory tops out at 32GB of DDR5-5600, with storage across two PCIe Gen 4 NVMe slots reaching up to 2TB total.
Connectivity includes a USB 4 Type-C port, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, HDMI 2.1, a microSD slot, and an RJ-45, with wireless handled by an Intel chipset supporting Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
Keeping all of that running at temperature falls to a dual-fan, quad-intake, quad-exhaust cooling arrangement with vector heat pipes – a more aggressive thermal setup than you’d normally expect at this price point. The NitroSense utility gives users manual control over fan curves and performance modes, which is the kind of granular access that matters when the CPU is this capable.
The Rest of the Computex Lineup
Headlining the broader announcement is the Predator Helios 18 AI, which pairs up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus with a mobile RTX 5090.
That machine supports up to 256GB of DDR5 memory and 6TB of storage spread across three PCIe 5.0 NVMe slots.
Its 18-inch Mini LED display covers 100% DCI-P3, hits 1000 nits in HDR mode, and operates as a dual-mode panel – switchable between 4K at 120Hz and 1080p at 240Hz depending on whether you want the visuals or the frame rate.
Rounding out the announcement are the Nitro Blaze Link streaming handheld, a travel backpack with an integrated USB-C charging pass-through, and a TKL keyboard boasting an 8,000Hz polling rate. The Nitro Blaze Link is a streaming-only device that leans on your existing PC rather than running games locally – a practical concept for households where one high-end system needs to serve multiple users.
On availability: the Nitro 16 is Acer’s first gaming laptop powered by AMD’s 9955HX3D, and both it and the Predator Helios 18 AI are set to reach North America and EMEA in August 2026. Pricing hasn’t been confirmed yet, which means the question of whether that CPU milestone comes at a reasonable cost remains open. Given that the 9955HX3D is considered the top available option for gaming in the HX3D category , the answer to that pricing question will determine whether this is a genuinely exciting value laptop or just a spec sheet worth admiring from a distance.
