John Calipari’s Arkansas Razorbacks are preparing for their Sweet 16 matchup against No. 1 Arizona in the men’s NCAA Tournament on Thursday, March 26, but the Hall of Fame coach took time out to support Moses Moody.
Moody, a 23-year-old Golden State Warriors guard, suffered a season-ending, gruesome noncontact injury on Monday night and had to be stretchered out of American Airlines Center in Dallas.
“Heard about Moses Moody injury last night,” Calipari posted on X (formerly Twitter). “@MosesMoody you are always welcome to come back and rehab with us and use the facility. Prayers for a speedy and full recovery!”
The Athletic‘s Nick Friedell reported that Moody suffered a torn patellar tendon in his left knee when he planted for a dunk late in overtime during the Warriors’ 137-131 win.
Friedell relayed that Moody instantly knew “something was terribly wrong,” and Moody will undergo surgery later this week.
The Warriors selected Moody at No. 14 overall in the 2021 NBA Draft. Moody played one season of college basketball at Arkansas, where he earned First Team All-SEC, SEC Freshman of the Year, and SEC All-Freshman team honors. Calipari became Arkansas’ head men’s basketball coach in April 2024.
Monday’s game in Dallas was Moody’s first action since March 2, missing 10 games with a wrist injury. In 34 minutes before the injury, Moody shot 8-of-20 (4-of-11) from the field for 23 points, along with three assists, three rebounds, three steals, and two blocks.
Overall, Moody averaged a career-high 12.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 60 games (49 starts) during his fifth season with the Warriors.
Moody’s was the latest in a string of brutal injury luck for the 34-38 Warriors this season.
All-Star Jimmy Butler was lost to a torn ACL on Jan. 19. Two-time NBA MVP and four-time NBA champion Stephen Curry has been out with “runner’s knee” since Jan. 30. Four-time NBA champion Draymond Green has missed time with nagging injuries, most notably back issues, and recently acquired big man Kristaps Porzingis has been largely unavailable due to persistent illness.
