A second crime scene has been established, at a unit in Sydney’s west, after a woman’s body was found in bushland on Sunday. Police said the body had been there for several days before it was discovered.

A passer-by came across the body at a nature reserve in Werrington on Sunday afternoon and police were called to Irwin Street about 1.15pm.

Speaking outside St Marys police station, Detective Superintendent Trent King said the body was that of a woman believed to have been middle-aged. He said police would cross-reference the missing persons’ register to help identify her.

“The area of the reserve in question is quite isolated, so it seems like the body had been there for a period of time without discovery,” he said.

The body was found lying next to clothes and rubbish in a “remote” area that backs onto sporting fields on one side, and residential areas on the other.

Overnight, police established a second crime scene at a unit block on Parkes Avenue, Werrington, just 500 metres away from where the body was found.

Forensics processed the scene overnight, gathering evidence from the unit that Nine reports was the home of the woman.
