The “entitled” Florida dentist who arranged the murder of his ex-brother-in-law screamed and berated jail staff for hurting his toe — days before his mother was scolded over her courtroom outburst.
Charlie Adelson accused staff at the Leon County Jail of slamming a door into his foot as he waited for his daily medication on Aug. 31
“That was really f–king stupid,” Adelson stammers, according to bodycam footage obtained by podcast “Lies and Alibis.” “Really stupid. You opened the hatch, I was standing here barefoot and you slammed the door into my toe.”
The jabbering 47-year-old, serving a life sentence for his role in the 2014 death of Dan Markel, was being held in the Leon County Jail during his mother, Donna Adelson’s, murder trial, in case he testified in court.
The killer dentist became irritated with the unidentified staffer and ordered to speak with the worker’s supervisors.
“Bring your lieutenant over. I’ll tell him how f–king stupid you are,” the locked-up Adelson threatened. “You don’t know what stupid is? You’re f–king stupid.”
“Give me my medicine and open the hatch like a normal person. Like someone with a brain,” Adelson said.
Adelson repeatedly mumbled “the hatch” was opened on him.
The unwavering nurse explained the incident to her higher-up and painted the complete picture for him as Adelson remained locked up.
“We came to this cell to do a medication pass. He was standing at the door. I unlocked the door to push the door open, he said I ran over his toe,” the nurse explained she wanted to get Adelson medically checked out before describing his attitude.
“I’ve been recording, he done cursed me out, he done called me stupid,” she said. “He’s gonna tell you how stupid I am.”
Adelson rambled on to the lieutenant and said it was common sense to use the hatch to pass items through into the cell rather than opening the door.
He said his toe wasn’t broken but was “f–ked up” by the door.
The jumpsuit-clad inmate hobbled out of his cell, requesting to take his medication before getting his toe looked at.
Legal experts blasted Adelson’s entitlement as he had been accustomed to the privilege lifestyle he had before his arrest and conviction.
“That was a sight of an entitled, privileged brat,” criminal law attorney Melba Pearson told CourtTV.
“This is not unexpected for me because he thinks he’s still at the Ritz, living his best life out of custody. But the reality is, he’s going to have to adapt. He’s not going to get special treatment. He is not special,” she said.
“His wealth means nothing there. He needs to sit down, learn some respect and learn some humility. He’s going to learn that lesson one way or the other.”
Adelson was found guilty in December 2023 of first-degree murder, conspiracy and solicitation in the hit on Markel, a Florida State University law professor and the father of Adelson’s two nephews.
Markel and Adelson’s sister were in a bitter divorce and custody battle when he was killed outside his home.
The younger Adelson and his then-girlfriend, Katherine Magbanua, hired two men — Sigfredo Garcia and Luis Rivera — to carry out the hit on Markel.
Rivera and Garcia, members of the ruthless Latin Kings gang, stalked Markel on the morning of July 18, 2014, before following him back to his house and shooting him.
Garcia, Magbanua’s ex-husband, was found guilty of being the triggerman in the killing and is serving a life sentence behind bars.
Donna Adelson was found guilty weeks later for being the mastermind behind her ex-son-in-law’s death. A judge reprimanded her for her emotional outburst after being found guilty and sentenced to life in prison.
“Oh my God,” she shouted before the no-nonsense justice silenced her as her sobs filled the courtroom.
