An 11-year-old surfer was attacked by a shark on Sydney’s northern beaches on Monday morning, biting his board several times but causing no injuries to the boy.
The boy fled to shore with multiple other surfers after the attack, which is understood to have occurred near the surf break on the southern end of Dee Why beach, near the peninsula that separates it from Curl Curl.

The beach was closed after the attack, as surf lifesavers were deployed on jet skis to inspect the scene. A drone was also spotted surveilling the waters above Dee Why.
A picture posted by the Manly Observer shows a bite mark on the boy’s board after the incident. The publication reported witnesses observing what appeared to be a bull shark in the water, possibly up to five feet long.
