Braylon Mullins quickly became a March Madness hero in Connecticut and all around the country, as his incredible last-second three-point shot went through the net, giving the UConn Huskies a 73-72 victory over Duke.

The epic basket brought extreme excitement from the sidelines, the crowd, and fans watching it unfold everywhere. Mullins raised both arms in celebration of nailing the game-winning shot for UConn, creating a memorable moment that will forever be remembered as part of basketball history.

His parents have been a big part of his journey, supporting him along the way, including his decision to take his talents to the University of Connecticut and try to hone his craft further under coach Dan Hurley. They recently spoke about their wild reactions to seeing their son’s amazing three-pointer in the frantic finale of that NCAA Tournament game.

“It went through, and it was pandemonium,” Mullins’ mother, Katie Mullins, told WISH NEWS 8, adding, “I blacked out. I don’t remember exactly what was happening. I was crying very, very hard; it was crazy.”

“I think I yelled so hard that I thought I was gonna pass out and went down to my knees for a minute,” his dad, Josh Mullins, recalled. “I can’t even describe the feeling. Everything was in slow motion, but when it went through, I was just, ‘Please tell me there’s not a lot of time on the clock.'”

Dan Hurley’s Dad Had Surprising Reaction to Braylon Mullins Shot for UConn

There wasn’t, as his son’s shot went through the net with just 0.4 remaining, giving Duke very little time to get off a full-court inbounds pass for some sort of miracle shot, similar to Christian Laettner versus Kentucky many NCAA Tournaments ago.

That wasn’t the case, as there were no miracles to be had for this Blue Devils team. Instead, UConn seized a one-point win after a gutsy comeback in a game they kept fighting for until the very end.

What made that shot extra special is that Mullins sent his team to the Final Four, which occurs this weekend in Indianapolis, Indiana. He mentioned that when he was first recruited to UConn, that was a selling point, as Hurley told him they would get him to the championship game in Indiana.

Mullins is originally from Greenfield, Indiana, so that’s home for him, and his family will certainly be around for the occasion.

It will be extremely convenient for Mullins’ mom and dad, friends, and others he’s known from the area to attend the game, with Braylon likely requesting a few extra tickets for family and friends to be there.
