In heartbreaking fashion, Team USA fell in an all‑time classic on Tuesday night in the World Baseball Classic championship, losing to Team Venezuela 3‑2 in front of a packed crowd at loanDepot Park in Miami.

It was a pitching duel for much of the game, and Venezuela was dominant on the mound, limiting the Americans to just three hits overall. But Team USA battled back in the bottom of the eighth inning when Bryce Harper launched a two‑run home run to tie the score at 2‑2 with two outs.

The drama continued in the top of the ninth, when Venezuela put a runner in scoring position, and Eugenio Suárez delivered a go‑ahead RBI double to give his team a 3‑2 lead. Venezuela’s bullpen then closed out the game, securing the nation’s first‑ever WBC title.

While Venezuela celebrated with obvious emotion, Harper was widely praised by fans after he went over to shake hands with the Venezuelan players after receiving his silver medal.

“Class act from Harper, shows real respect. Still, USA had the talent edge on paper,” a fan said.

Someone else added, “Bryce is a very good man always has been.”

Another wrote, “Very nice gesture Bryce, you scared us for a moment.”

“So unusual to see good sportsmanship these days. Well done, Bryce,” one more fan commented.

It wasn’t by any means Harper’s best showing at the plate throughout the tournament — he finished with a .214 batting average and a .267 on‑base percentage — but he was essentially the only player who showed up in the batter’s box on Tuesday night, a reminder that in baseball, anything can happen on any given night, no matter the makeup of your team.
