The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are pretty well set at quarterback with Baker Mayfield locked in as their starter, but the team needs some depth behind him after losing 2025 backup Teddy Bridgewater to the Detroit Lions.
Mayfield began the year in the MVP running, but he cooled down as injuries mounted to his receiving corps (Mike Evans, Chris Godwin Jr., and Sterling Shephard missed a combined 21 games).
He still finished with 3,693 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions while rushing for a career high 382 yards and another touchdown.
Behind Mayfield is former Cincinnati Bengals QB Jake Browning and second-year Bowling Green alum Connor Bazelak, but the team added to its QB room immediately after the 2026 NFL draft.
“Former Kansas QB Jalon Daniels is signing with the Bucs on a deal that includes a $247,000 base salary guarantee and $25,000 signing bonus, source said,” NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero posted on X.
A former second-team All-Big 12 selection, Daniels has six years of college experience under his belt. The 23-year-old signal-caller threw for 9,282 yards, 67 touchdowns, and 31 interception while rushing for 1,451 yards and 23 more touchdowns.
Daniels’ best season came this past year.
Though Kansas went just 5-7, Daniels hit a new personal best in passing yards (2,531) and touchdowns (22). He finished his career with a 19-26 record, though he did lead Kansas to a 9-4 record and victory over UNLV in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl in 2023.
