The Kansas City Chiefs did not get off to the start they were hoping for this season, losing to the Los Angeles Chargers in Brazil last week. Despite the 0-1 start, the Chiefs are feeling confident about their ability to bounce back.

With Patrick Mahomes leading the way, Kansas City will always been a top-tier contender. Travis Kelce is also back for another season.

Even though Kelce came back for the 2025 season, retirement is on the horizon for him. The Chiefs could use a long-term replacement for him if one presents itself.

Steelers, Tyreek Hill Rumors Receive New Take From NFL Insider

That being said, one potential trade has been suggested that would give Kansas City it’s long-term tight end replacement for Kelce.

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox has suggested the Chiefs as a top potential landing spot for Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku.

Knox has suggested that a conditional 2026 third-round pick could get a deal done for Njoku.

Njoku would be a very intriguing pickup for Kansas City. He would help the Chiefs pursue another Super Bowl run this season, while giving them a long-term option at tight end for Mahomes to continue working with.

Last season with the Browns, Njoku played a big role for the offense. He played in 11 games, catching 64 passes for 505 yards and five touchdowns. In Week 1 this year, he caught three passes for 37 yards.

Making a move for Njoku would bring in the kind of big-play threat at tight end that Kelce has offered Kansas City for years. He’s not on the same level as Kelce, but playing alongside of Mahomes could help him take a big step in that direction.

At 29 years old, Njoku still has a few good years of elite football left in him. He has the 2025 season left on his contract and the Chiefs could work out a new deal with him to keep him in town for years to come.

Should he be placed on the trade block by Cleveland, Kansas City would be wise to look into the potential move. The Chiefs don’t have to force finding another tight end, but a player like Njoku being made available could be exactly what they need to remain a top contender moving forward.
