Cowboys fans are happy with how the team has responded on the first day of the new NFL season, agreeing to some good players out of the gate to help bolster their shaky defense.

But after trading away Micah Parsons last year, Dallas fans aren’t going to be satisfied with Jerry Jones until he lands the big fish.

The player who not only bolsters the defense but also transforms it. An anchor. An ace. A superstar that can be called upon to make the big play when all the chips are down, and the Cowboys need a destroyer to break through to the offense.

On the trade market, that player was Maxx Crosby. But the Cowboys would not part with two first-rounders for the former Raider, and so he went to the Baltimore Ravens.

In free agency, there is only one big fish that could transform the Cowboys’ defensive line like a Crosby or (to a lesser extent) a Parsons: Trey Hendrickson of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Although Hendrickson had a relatively quiet year after leading the league in sacks two years ago, he is still considered one of the better EDGEs in the game, an ace who can be called upon when needed.

After a fruitful opening day to the 2026 season, the landing of Hendrickson could actually turn the generally villainous Jones into a hero for once for the Cowboys fanbase still searching for their first NFC title appearance in 30 years.

“If the Cowboys could pull off getting Trey Hendrickson, it’ll open the draft all the way up after acquiring EDGE Rashan Gary and S Jalen Thompson,” said one Cowboys fan on X.

“So with Dean going to the Raiders, that confirms Hendrickson is a Cowboy,” another fan chimed in.

“JERRY JONES NOT FINISHED HE STILL PUSHING FOR TREY HENDRICKSON!” screamed (virtually) another fan, urging Jones to lock down the Bengals big man. “COME TO DALLAS, TREY!”
