A crooked Long Island PTA vice president admitted she stole more than $14,000 of dollars from the group and splurged at Lululemon and other stores, Suffolk County prosecutors said.
Hope Livingston, 50, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to grand larceny charges after soaking the Sag Harbor Elementary School Parent Teacher Association from July 2021 through June 2024, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said in a statement.
She’s expected to be forced to pay back $14,500 in restitution for her shopping spree.
“Stealing from a school’s PTA is not just a crime, it is a betrayal of our children and community,” Tierney said of Livingston, who also served as the PTA treasurer for a stretch.
“My office will continue to have zero tolerance for corruption,” the DA added.
Livingston had access to the PTA’s bank account through a debit card meant strictly for PTA-related purchases — but instead raked up thousands in person purchases on Amazon and at stores like Target and Costco, according to officials.
The president even withdrew cash directly from the account on multiple occasions, prosecutors said.
But her scheme came crashing down in September 2024 when the PTA’s bank account was handed over to a board full of fresh, new members who discovered Livingston had been using their money for a personal shopping spree.
The former VP, who was arrested in March, is due back in court on Oct. 6.
Livingston is expected to be sentenced to five years of probation in addition to the restitution, the DA said.
