Another day, another unfortunate injury update for Chicago Cubs superstar right fielder Kyle Tucker.
Tucker has been dealing with a calf injury that has sidelined him since the beginning of September and the latest update from Cubs manager Craig Counsell was not a positive sign in the slightest.
Tucker was eligible to come off the injured list Tuesday, but it was already known that would not be the case. It was not known, though, that Tucker’s injury would not progress the way Chicago had hoped.
Prior to Wednesday’s game, Counsell revealed that Tucker would be headed to Florida to seek a second opinion and additional treatment for his injury. He revealed that injury just simply isn’t responding to treatment the way they’d hoped it would.
“Unfortunately, we’ve plateaued and we weren’t making progress,” Counsell told reporters via a video on X from Marquee Sports Network.

The entire injury situation for Tucker has come at an unfortunate time for the Cubs as they are approaching their first postseason appearance since 2020. Tucker is not expected to return to the lineup until Tuesday at the earliest, and even that feels like a stretch with the way his calf injury has gone.
A playoff lineup without Tucker could be worrisome for Chicago. It would have to rely on players such as Willi Castro and Moises Ballesteros, players that have little-to-no postseason experience in their careers.
Cub fans as well as the organization are certainly hoping that Tucker’s trip down to Florida will be what he needs to properly recover and get back to full strength. If not, Chicago could be looking at an exit in the wild card round in three consecutive postseason trips.
