A text message between a daughter and her dad has left internet users in tears.
In a post on TikTok, Tatiana Bailey (@igotsomebaileys) shared a screenshot of a text chain with her father, Steve Bailey, after sending him a photo of her young son Atticus. Along with the picture, Tatiana wrote: “Have you ever seen someone so cute before?”
Her dad’s reply was short but powerful. Instead of texting back, Steve responded with a photo of himself holding Tatiana when she was a little girl, followed by a single line: “Yes, I have.”
Tatiana, from Waterloo, Illinois, told Newsweek that the message took her completely by surprise. She explained that she and her dad talk multiple times a day and have always shared a close bond.
“I took that picture of my son and thought how cute he was,” Tatiana said. “I sent it to him, thinking he’d agree with me.”
Like many parents, Tatiana expected a quick compliment or a proud-grandparent response. Instead, her dad’s message instantly reframed the moment.
“When I read his text, I was like, ‘Aww!’” she said. “I really thought he would say, ‘That is one cute baby.’”
Steve’s reply, however, carried far more meaning. The photo he sent back dated to Tatiana’s own childhood.
Steve and Tatiana’s mother adopted her from an orphanage in Russia in 2000, a fact she said makes their bond feel even more profound.
“I literally wouldn’t be here without them,” Tatiana said.
Their closeness only deepened after Steve suffered a spinal cord injury in 2004. Despite the injury, Tatiana said he has remained a constant source of strength, humor and support in her life.
“I’ve always thought of him as Superman,” she said. “He’s been there for me in every way growing up and even still to this day.”
Now, Steve has taken on a new role as grandfather—and Tatiana said he shines there, too. Atticus, she explained, adores his grandpa.
“My dad loves to show him cool videos on YouTube, and he’ll just sit in his lap and ride around in his chair,” she said.
Tatiana’s post is going viral on TikTok, clocking up over 1.4 million views. Many users said the exchange left them in tears.
“I would immediately bawl,” one user wrote.
“You’re still his baby,” another posted.
Tatiana said she never expected the video to resonate the way it did.
“I was just in my kitchen, thinking about my dad,” she added. “And it’s been soaring every day.”
Tatiana has found herself moved by comments from viewers who say Steve reminds them of someone special in their own lives.
“I love reading the comments about how others have a Steve, but I also wish others had a Steve as well,” she added.
