Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders spoke about whether he would take a potential NFL head-coaching opportunity, taking a firm stance on his prospects of leading professionals.
Sanders is the most talked-about college football coach in the country, especially because of his brash personality and storied football career. He is taking on a massive rebuild at Colorado, a team that was once spiraling but has now garnered attention league-wide.
Since taking on coaching duties, Sanders’ name has come up in connection with the Dallas Cowboys head-coaching job after the 2024 season, among other high-profile openings.
Despite the links and speculation, he ended up staying with the Buffaloes, where he is still the head man, and is hoping to achieve success for the first time since his son, Shedeur, and superstar Travis Hunter left the school.
Speaking of Shedeur, the controversial quarterback slid down the draft boards in 2025, but he eventually found a home with the Browns in the fifth round.
There were reports of character concerns and worries about how he ended up interviewing before the draft, which many attributed to a conspiracy by the league.
When speaking to First Take during Super Bowl week, Sanders said his son’s draft slide was the reason for his disinterest in coaching in the NFL.
“Not whatsoever. What transpired with my son last year, ain’t no way in the world,” Sanders said when asked about the prospect of coaching in the NFL.

Following the 2025 NFL Draft, Deion called out the league and the chatter surrounding his son, but said it will only serve as motivation in the long run.
“There was some foolish stuff that went on, but you know what? That gave them something that they needed,” Deion said after the draft.
“That edge that Tom (Brady) had, that you have, it gave them that edge that I have. Folks said we weren’t going to be nothing. We had to prove that. That gave them the edge that they needed. Both of them.”
While he is seemingly taking the positives from the controversy, “Primetime” is not forgetting about the noise anytime soon — even if a job offer comes.
