Who Has Been Cast in the ‘Harry Potter’ TV Reboot?
HBO announced an open casting call for the roles of Harry, Ron and Hermione in September 2024. According to the announcement, the network was looking for child actors located in the U.K. and Ireland who would be at the ages of 9-11 at the time of April 2025.
The casting method is reminiscent of the original films, as Rupert Grint and Emma Watson were both cast as Ron and Hermione, respectively, through an open casting call.
Casting for the Golden Trio was not revealed when HBO and Max confirmed the show’s first cast members in April 2025. John Lithgow’s casting as Albus Dumbledore broke Rowling’s previous role of only casting U.K. actors in the film adaptations.
Also joining the TV show’s Hogwarts staff is Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch.
In June 2025, the show cast Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown, Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley and Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge.
The trio of wizards were later announced as: Dominic McLaughlin playing Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton playing Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout playing Ron Weasley.
