Since training camp got underway, the loaded quarterback room has been a major topic of conversation for the New York Giants. With their season opener just days away, Brian Daboll is reluctant to show his hand in regards to the depth chart.

During the offseason, the Giants went through a complete overhaul under center. The front office acquired a pair of veterans in free agency in Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, along with nabbing Jaxson Dart on draft night.

Based on these moves, it’s clear what New York’s vision is. Wilson was brought in to bridge the gap and bring some veteran leadership and stability to the QB position. He’ll also serve as a mentor for Dart before he takes over the reins as the franchise’s long-term option.

Since mandatory minicamp, there have been endless debates on whether the Giants should give Dart the keys now. However, Daboll has stuck with his decision of making Wilson the starter to open the year.

In light of his strong showing in the preseason, the chatter around Dart has only gotten louder. While starting might be out of the question, now everyone has their eyes on who will be Wilson’s backup.

When asked if Dart or Winston will have the No. 2 spot on the depth chart, Daboll said there is a plan in place that is going to be revealed in due time.

“Any roster decisions based on who’s going to be the backup, we’ll have that out there on Sunday,” Daboll said, per ESPN. “We have a good idea of how we’re going to play, with the players we’re going to play with. That’ll all come out on Sunday.”

While Winston has far more experience than Dart, it’s clear the rookie should be given backup honors to start the 2025 campaign. The Giants traded back into the first round to draft him, proving they are firm believers in his potential. Also, based on how he looked in preseason, Dart has proven he can hold his own at the NFL level.

Seeing that Wilson is only on a one-year deal, many believe that Dart will take over at QB at some point this season. In the meantime, the world has to wait until Sunday to see if he’s named Wilson’s backup Week 1 against the Washington Commanders.
