Sara Waisglass has a message for those people who “didn’t like” Ginny & Georgia.
The 26-year-old actress, who plays Max on the Netflix hit, took to TikTok on Monday, June 30, with suggestions for shows to watch if you weren’t a fan of Ginny & Georgia. Instead of offering alternative titles, however, Waisglass suggested viewers “try again.”
“Thank you to everyone who has watched Ginny and Georgia season 3!!” she captioned the funny video. “Your comments are killing me and I love every single one of you guys for going on the journey with us.”
Ginny & Georgia, which premiered in 2021, follows a young single mother who moves her family to Wellsbury, Massachusetts, after running away from her past. Along with Waisglass, the series stars Brianne Howey, Antonia Gentry, Diesel La Torraca, Felix Mallard, Raymond Ablack and Scott Porter.
As the show has continued to grow, so has its fan base. Ginny & Georgia was renewed for a fourth season before its third premiered last month — with the cast hoping to get even more episodes in the future.
“Our creator, Sarah [Lampert], is an infinite well of stories. I’m sure we could spin this thing for an awful long time,” Porter, 45, exclusively told Us Weekly in June. “And it’s up to Netflix on whether or not we continue on. But, let me just say to our viewers, thank you so much for tuning in over these first three seasons. We never expected the show to be a hit the way that it is — and it’s all because of you all. So thank you.”
With success has also come criticism. Season 3 aired after a two-year hiatus, leaving fans worried that La Torraca’s real-life growth spurt would cause Austin to be recast in season 4.
Season 2 wrapped up filming in early 2022, but production on the third installment was delayed due to the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. While some viewers thought this meant Austin could get replaced with a new actor, Lampert had different ideas.
“Anyone who works on the show will tell you I am fastidious about the details. I am just specific with so many things. Then things like Diesel growing five years [older], I’m like, ‘Whatever.’ Because you can’t control it,” she told Us in June. “We can’t recast. Diesel is Austin.”
La Torraca, 14, addressed the concern last month while describing the creative ways the show disguised his obvious growth spurt.
“Well, honestly, we kind of ignore it a little bit!” he told Teen Vogue. “It’s kind of just like … there’s a 14-year-old sitting at the table with Harry Potter glasses on that’s supposed to be 9. And that’s OK! In some shots, I did have to bend my knees a little bit to look a little shorter than [Antonia], or they got her an apple box a few times, but for the most part, we’ve kind of just kept the show running.”
La Torraca continued: “Playing a 9-year-old for six years when you are growing … I’ve grown with him, but I’ve also kind of departed from him because I was 8 when we started, now I’m 14. There are a lot of differences in the way that he would move and act and speak. I have to heighten my voice register, slouch a little bit [to] feel like I’m actually a shy, insecure 9-year-old.”
Ginny and Georgia is currently streaming on Netflix.
