The relationship between a 3-year-old and her mom’s partner is melting hearts across the internet.
Tiarna Ivy (@tiarnaivy) shared a heartwarming reel on Instagram of the moment her toddler, Lani, spots her mom’s partner, Patrick, waiting beyond the arrivals gate and leaps straight into his arms.
“It warms my heart to know she loves the person I love with her whole heart,” Tiarna Ivy told Newsweek. “They are very lucky to have each other and I love watching them together.”
The text overlay reads: “She may not be his biological daughter but he makes sure you’d never be able to tell.” She also acknowledged their unique relationship in her caption, writing: “The love between these two is so special.”
The moment is especially meaningful given Tiarna Ivy’s personal journey. She has been open online about navigating grief after losing her partner, Noah, in a tragic motorbike accident.
While she’s mindful of what she keeps private, Tiarna Ivy said sharing her grief publicly has been intentional.
“Grief can be such a tip toe subject, but when you go through a loss as catastrophic as I did you really can’t,” she said. “It’s part of who you are, it changes your whole world and the way you carry yourself.”
Sharing more context on the scene, Tiarna Ivy said she and her daughter had just returned home after spending five days away. Patrick had been waiting for them at the airport, and their reunion was filled with excitement—especially for her daughter, who was “clearly very excited to see him.”
Her reel has gone viral on Instagram, clocking up more than 10.5 million views. In the comments, users couldn’t cope with the reunion.
“As a girl who grew up with a father that wasn’t her biological dad, you’ll never hear me not refer to my dad as my dad because that man raised me and would do anything for me,” one user wrote.
“Anyone can be a father but it takes a real man to be a dad,” another commented.
“More than just a stepdad too,” said a third.
Another said it brought tears to their eyes. “Brought tears to my eyes,” another added.
For other parents grieving the loss of a partner, Tiarna Ivy advises to take comfort in knowing that life can still hold moments of beauty.
“[Take] one foot in front of the other, minute by minute, hour by hour,” she said. “Every day will feel different, some scary and some beautiful, just know that as time passes you see more and more glimmers of hope and you learn to rebuild your life around grief. It won’t always be all encompassing.”
