As he kicked off his return to the PGA Tour, golfer Brooks Koepka opened up about his family’s recent hardships.
.
“A lot’s gone on over the past five or six months with my family,” Koepka, 35, said in a press conference at Torrey Pines on Wednesday, January 28, seemingly referring to wife Jena Sims’ pregnancy loss, according to Essentially Sports. He added that the events of the past year have “played a big role” in his PGA Tour comeback this week.
“I have no regrets,” Koepka, who left LIV Golf with one year left on his contract in late 2025, continued. “But at the same time, I’m excited for this new chapter. Grateful to be out here.”
Koepka added that having his family present for the next tournament is “really important” to him.
Koepka has been married to Sims, 36, since 2022. The couple shares son Crew, whom they welcomed in July 2023.
Sims announced in October 2025 that she had suffered a pregnancy loss.
“At 16 weeks, we learned that our baby’s heart had stopped beating,” she wrote via Instagram at the time. “This is a grief no parent is ever prepared for. We are devastated, but remain hopeful to give Crew a sibling one day. Too often, these struggles happen in silence. There is still so much work and research needed to better understand and support women’s reproductive health.”
Sims continued, “If you’re experiencing or have experienced pregnancy loss or infertility, please know you are not alone. 💔Lastly, I want to recognize the doctors and nurses who must deliver this kind of heartbreaking news every day. It has to be the hardest part of their job, and I’m holding space in my heart for you too.”
Months before the loss, Sims opened up to Us Weekly exclusively about parenthood.
“For so many women, motherhood is their calling and their ultimate goal. I totally respect that. But that is one of my goals,” she said in July 2025. “When Brooks and I were discussing having children, I was always like, ‘I’m still going to be working. I’m still gonna have a life.’ I think it’s intimidating to a lot of women who can’t imagine it.”
The model continued, “I just couldn’t live my life any other way. I’m thankful I found a partner who is very appreciative of that. If anything, I think it’s one of the things he finds most attractive about me.”
In December 2025, LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil announced Koepka’s plans to depart the league.
“We have amicably and mutually agreed that Brooks Koepka will no longer compete in the LIV Golf League, following the 2025 season,” O’Neil said. “Brooks is prioritizing the needs of his family and staying closer to home. We appreciate the significant impact he has had on the game and wish him continued success, both on and off the course.”
Koepka had been a member of LIV Golf since June 2022.
“Family has always guided Brooks’ decisions, and he feels this is the right moment to spend more time at home,” Koepka’s management team said in a December 2025 statement. “Brooks will continue to be a huge supporter of LIV Golf and wishes the league and its players continued success. Brooks remains passionate about the game of golf and will keep fans updated on what’s ahead.”
Meanwhile, the PGA Tour said in a statement at the time, “Brooks Koepka is a highly accomplished professional, and we wish him and his family continued success. The PGA Tour continues to offer the best professional golfers the most competitive, challenging and lucrative environment in which to pursue greatness.”
