In the Northern Hemisphere, we have entered the dark half of the year, a season that invites and invokes introspection, recalibration, a slower pace and an increased focus on self-care.

As we turn our attention inward, we are asked to answer to our moon sign.

In astrology, the moon reveals our style of need and the nourishment we did and didn’t receive as children. If the sun is the light we shine, the moon is the shadow we keep. Within the birth chart, astrologers look to that shadow to determine survival instincts, defense mechanisms, and even eating habits.

How are we fed and formed, folks? By the light of the ever-loving moon.

“The moon governs our subconscious. Your moon sign tells you what you need to feel safe and helps you understand who you are, what you feel, and why,” Antonella, professional astrologer at Psychic World, told The Post.

She shared that honoring your moon sign goes beyond surface-level needs.

“Instead, you nourish yourself at the spirit level, going beyond face masks and typical self-care techniques.”

Caring for your moon varies depending on what sign the moon falls in.

“This means choosing rituals that fit your emotional blueprint instead of following a one-size-fits-all routine. For example, Scorpio moons heal by confronting their emotions directly, where shadow journaling is restorative, whereas Sagittarius moons thrive on freedom and exploration, and vision boards can help channel their goals and inspire focus, said Antonella.

To determine your moon sign, use a reputable birth chart calculator or moon sign generator.

Aries moons are an intense sort, who burn through emotions and expression at a fast and fiery pace.

The following practices can help them find a healthy way to release their emotional energy, a controlled burn versus an explosion, if you will.

Mind: Journal thoughts to avoid mental overload. This will help calm a racing mind and channel energy without the recklessness that can often trouble Aries moons.

Body: Cardio like running and high-intensity workouts such as HIIT or even boxing will help let off steam, burn off your fire and act as a mood booster.

Spirit: Fire rituals, where fears or frustrations are written down on paper before being safely delivered to the flames, are a great way to clear the energetic slate.

Taurus moons love stability and the predictable pastures of their comfort zone. For them, emotional stress manifests as restlessness and tension.

To self-soothe, Antonella recommends team Taurus engage with the following rituals.

Mind: Practising gratitude is an excellent way to centre the mind and remind oneself that abundance and everything they need are already here.

Body: With winter upon us, cozy, seasonal and nutritious meals help connect the body and the earth, from soups to pumpkin risottos or even spiced ciders.

Spirit: Meditation focused on abundance is profoundly healing for Taurus moons.

Gemini moons are curious and communicative, with a tendency to get stuck in their heads and intellectualize their emotions.

To both stimulate and soothe their minds, Antonella recommends the following practices.

Mind: Podcasts, books, and journaling can help feed their restless intellect and healthily process their feelings. When journaling, try prompts that start with “What am I really feeling right now?”.

Body: Dance is a very therapeutic way to release nervous energy and let emotions go; otherwise, breathwork with short, varied patterns helps reset the nervous system.

Spirit: Affirmations spoken aloud can help turn mental chaos into clarity.

“Cancer moons are natural empaths and can be heavily impacted by others’ moods,” said Antonella.

For these lunar beings, self-nurturance and emotional boundaries are absolutely necessary. To put these pillars into practice, she recommends the following rituals.

Mind: Dream journaling helps tap into their intuitive and reflective nature, aiding the processing of often unseen emotional cues.

Body: Warm baths and herbal soaks can help calm and soothe overstimulated nerves.

Spirit: Cancer is governed by the moon, so lunar energy is an emotional lifeline for Cancer moons. Moon bathing helps ‘rinse off’ emotional residue and restore inner calm. This can be as simple as lying outdoors at night, closing the eyes, breathing deeply, and imagining the moonlight washing over the body like waves, clearing away emotional heaviness.

A lunar sign ruled by the sun, Leo moons are oxygenated by attention. While they present as confident big cats, they can easily fall prey to insecurities, one-sided relationships, fear of rejection and a perceived lack of appreciation.

To cultivate calm and confidence, Antonella recommends the following practices.

Mind: Bold affirmations can boost confidence and clarity of mind. Try looking into a mirror while gazing into the eyes and repeating the affirmations.

Body: Leo moons draw energy and emotional balance from sunlight, so a sunrise run will bathe them in fresh solar energy, effectively hitting a spiritual reset for both the body and mind.

Spirit: Leo moons can feel emotionally drained if they don’t acknowledge their efforts and victories. Each evening, write three things that you did that you are proud of, whether it is a grand achievement or small moments where you have shown courage, love, or creativity.

“Virgo moons internalize stress, frequently overthinking and fault-finding, slowly and steadily picking themselves apart,” said Antonella.

This overthinking can take them out of the present moment. She recommends self-care rituals that help them release mental tension, getting them out of their heads and into the now.

Mind: List-making and journaling can help organize and cleanse thoughts to ease anxiety and mental overcrowding.

Body: Herbal teas, whole foods, and smoothies that nourish the body will help Virgo moons feel a sense of control and stability by taking proactive steps towards wellness and reinforcing the belief that they can control what they can control – a key belief for emotional security.

Spirit: Decluttering spaces clears both physical and mental environments, inviting a calm focus.

“Libra moons long for balance; emotional stress weighs heavily on them, and discord in relationships and/or the home environment affects them deeply. These are partnership-oriented folk who prefer to be with others rather than alone,” explained Antonella.

To soothe the constitution of this moon, she recommends integrating the following practices.

Mind: Journalling about goals can help Libra moons understand their true desires without seeking external validation or advice.

Body: Gentle yoga or tai chi helps restore harmony in the mind and body. Both techniques help promote relaxation, lower cortisol levels, and stabilize heart rate.

Spirit: As Libra Moons are relationship-oriented, nurturing their close ties will help create the balance they crave. Try practicing gratitude for your bonds; this could be as simple as writing notes of appreciation to your connections, whether platonic or romantic.

“Scorpio moons feel intensely, and any emotional suppression can lead to burnout. They can bottle things up and hold them in to protect their vulnerability, putting up a wall between themselves and their true feelings,” said Antonella.

She underscored the importance of focusing on healthy ways to release their prodigious emotional energy. To support that release, she recommends the following practices.

Mind: Shadow journaling can help Scorpio moons confront bottled-up emotions in a safe, judgment-free space. Set the scene by dimming lights, using a candle, and keeping the room quiet. Use prompts such as “What triggers me emotionally and why?” or “What am I afraid to admit about myself?” Write freely and without judgment. After journaling, close the session with a ritual, either safely burning it, folding it, or meditating.

Body: Breathwork can help channel pent-up energy and increase emotional awareness. Try box breathing: inhale for four counts, hold for four, exhale for four, and hold for four. Then repeat five to 10 times.

Spirit: Candlelit meditation helps with spiritual renewal and is particularly beneficial for signs ruled by water, like Scorpio – it strengthens emotional insight and psychic sensitivity.

“Sagittarius moons crave freedom, exploration and meaning. If they are stuck, whether in relationships or life situations, they can feel anxious, trapped and restless,” said Antonella.

To get the structured, nourishing freedom they need, she recommends the following pursuits.

Mind: Vision boards and goal-setting help Sagittarius moons channel their goals and foster optimism for the future.

Body: Outdoor activities and adventures, such as hiking, help them reconnect with nature and keep their adventurous spirit alive.

Spirit: Read spiritual, philosophical, or cosmological books to help broaden perspective, as engaging with higher knowledge aids in the search for truth and meaning.

Antonella shared that Capricorn moons crave control and structure, “and can often neglect self-compassion as they set such high standards for themselves.”

For Cap moons, self-compassion can be supported through the following rituals.

Mind: Reflecting on long-term goals can help ease anxiety and create clarity.

Body: Strength training or grounding practices can help reinforce their self-discipline and connect their mind to their body.

Spirit: Gardening can help tie them to the earth and bring emotional stability.

“Aquarius moons need mental stimulation and can become emotionally disconnected if routines become too mundane,” said Antonella.

To stay connected, she recommends the following practices.

Mind: Creative brainstorming can channel their ideas and thoughts.

Body: Trying a new exercise can feed their need for novelty.

Spirit: Try stargazing to connect with a cosmic perspective. It reminds those who overthink and get caught up in daily stresses or emotional detachment that there’s a vast universe beyond their personal troubles, helping release small worries and restore emotional equilibrium

“Pisces moons are very sensitive and highly intuitive, and without the proper emotional boundaries, they can be heavily impacted by the chaos of others,” shared Antonella.

To help combat this permeability, she recommends the following practices.

Mind: Journaling or practising poetry can help Pisces moons process their emotions without the risk of judgment from others.

Body: Water rituals, such as baths or wild swimming, can help ground their energy.

Spirit: Keep an amethyst or selenite crystal bedside for psychic cleansing. Amethyst neutralizes negative energy and promotes emotional balance; meanwhile, selenite helps keep the space vibrationally clean.
