The 2025 IIHF Women’s World Championship begins on Wednesday at Budvar Arena in České Budějovice, Czechia, with Finland taking on the United States in the first game of Group A play.
Group A consists of the USA, Canada, Finland, and Switzerland. It’s a group of heavy hitters.

The USA is looking to reclaim the title for the first time since 2023. They’ve been a dominant force in this tournament, winning 10 titles overall and reaching the final every single year since the event began in 1990, finishing as either champion or runner-up each time.
Meanwhile, Finland won silver in 2019 but has taken home bronze more often than any other medal in this tournament. 2022 was the first time the team didn’t finish fourth, slipping to sixth that year, and fifth in 2023 before righting the ship in 2024.
