The Indiana Hoosiers built a national championship-winning roster last season mostly through the transfer portal or with players who followed head coach Curt Cignetti over from James Madison.

Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Fernando Mendoza, running back Roma Hemby, wide receiver Elijah Sarratt, tight end Riley Nowakowski, guard Pat Coogan, defensive tackle Tyrique Tucker, linebacker Aidan Fisher, cornerbacks D’Angelo Ponds and Devan Boykin, and safety Louis Moore were all key contributors to the Hoosiers’ national title win — and they all weren’t on IU’s roster prior to Cignetti’s arrival in 2024.

But now that Cignettis has established Indiana as a national power, many should expect to see the school score some big wins on the recruiting trail.

The Hoosiers have already landed commitments from four-star cornerback Monsanna Torbert, and they’re on the verge of scoring another high-profile recruit: five-star WR Monshun Sales.

“The intel currently favors Indiana’s position for the Rivals Industry’s top-ranked wide receiver Monshun Sales and now my Rivals Prediction Machine Forecast reflects that,” On3’s Seth Wiltfong wrote.

“Alabama, Ohio State and Texas are the challengers with Sales targeting a mid-July commitment. Next up for the Indianapolis (Ind.) Lawrence North five-star is a return to Alabama the weekend of May 29.”

Sales, the No. 1-ranked receiver and No. 9-ranked overall recruit in the class of 2027, was wanted by every school in the country. He holds offers from Alabama, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, and Texas, among others, but the Hoosiers appear to be in the driver’s seat to land him.

The 6-foot-5 wideout caught 37 passes for 794 yards and nine touchdowns as a junior last year, averaging a mind-boggling 21.5 yards per reception.
