The Pittsburgh Steelers are still waiting on an answer from quarterback Aaron Rodgers regarding his playing status next season.
The 42-year-old QB has reportedly been in regular contact with the team throughout the offseason, but he doesn’t appear to be any closer to making a decision then he was before the draft.
While the Steelers wait for a final answer from Rodgers, rumors have been circulating that the four-time MVP has shown interest in playing next season — for the Arizona Cardinals. But according to ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss, Rodgers to the Cardinals is simply conjecture.
“I asked a source today if all the noise about Aaron Rodgers going to the Cardinals was real?” Weinfuss posted on X. “‘Not at all’ was the response. So, there’s that.”
Weinfuss’ report falls in line with what ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported this week about Rodgers’ future.
“I don’t see a second place [aside from the Steelers] right now,” Schefter said. “I just don’t see it. You tell me a second-place team. Somebody floated out Arizona. I don’t see Aaron Rodgers going out to Arizona to finish out his career. With all due respect, like what would be the team? I welcome suggestions. I don’t see it.”
If Rodgers, who threw for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns, and seven interceptions with a 94.8 passer rating last season, were to join the Cardinals, he would immediately be the most talented passer on Arizona’s roster.
The Cardinals currently has Jacoby Brissett, 2026 third-round pick Carson Beck, Gardner Minshew, and Kedon Slovis under contract.
Conversely, without Rodgers the Steelers have Will Howard, Mason Rudolph, and 2026 third-round pick Drew Allar on the roster. General manager Omar Khan appears to be high on Allar, and he could get a chance to play as a rookie if Rodgers either retires or signs elsewhere.
