Heading into the 2025 season, few players in the NFL have bigger expectations to meet than Jayden Daniels. The Washington Commanders have worked diligently to put the necessary pieces in place for him to succeed, but there’s still one stone that remains unturned.

With their Week 1 matchup against the New York Giants rapidly approaching, the Commanders still have one major question hanging over them. Will Terry McLaurin be on the field following an offseason full of drama?

McLaurin remains eager to secure a contract extension, but a deal has yet to surface. He and the Commanders have been far apart in negotiations for weeks now, resulting in the veteran wideout requesting a trade earlier this month.

As Daniels’ top option last season, him being on the field is crucial to the young QB’s success. Despite how things have unfolded this far, the Commanders’ star doesn’t seem worried about the situation.

Jayden Daniels believes Commanders will work things out with Terry McLaurin

During a recent interview on the Scoop City podcast, Daniels was asked to weigh in on the Commanders’ ongoing saga with McLaurin. Now with little time to spare, he expects things to work themselves out before the regular season gets underway.

“Hundred percent, I feel great (about the situation),” Daniels told The Athletic’s Dianna Russini. “I just know that it is all gonna work out, that both sides will come to an agreement and Terry’s gonna be back out here. We’re gonna be throwing some passes to him.”

Having a reliable receiver in McLaurin beside him was a big reason why Daniels put together such an impressive rookie campaign for Washington. The veteran caught a career-high 13 touchdowns from the franchise’s new cornerstone talent while also racking up his fifth 1,000-yard season since entering the NFL.

Ideally, the Commanders would have wanted McLaurin around in camp to get as many reps with Daniels as possible. However, based on how well they thrived together last year, it’s clear they have a strong connection. The key thing for Washington is to iron out an extension to get him back in the mix.

Many others in and around the NFL are curious to see what McLaurin will do to open the season. That said, Daniels doesn’t seem the least worried that he might not have the services of his top wideout.
