Kai Trump, President Donald Trump’s granddaughter, released a new video, which has come under widespread scrutiny online, titled “I Brought My Secret Service to Erewhon,” the luxury grocery store chain, amid widespread tensions over the Iran war.

@ProjectLincoln wrote on X in a post viewed over 90,000 times, “Your kids might get drafted to fight in Iran, while the Trump family uses your tax dollars to shop premium, organic, gluten-free cake,” while another post from the account @esjesjesj viewed over 490,000 times, read “You’ve got to be f****** kidding me.”

Why It Matters

Kai is the eldest of Trump’s grandchildren. She is the eldest daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and has gained attention as an aspiring golfer, with a rapidly growing presence on social media, with 2.7 million Instagram followers to date.

Public interest in her began after she gave a speech in support of her grandfather’s 2024 presidential campaign at the Republican National Convention in 2024, and since then, interest in her has continued to grow. She recently appeared on the Impaulsive podcast and regularly shares video content on her YouTube channel.

The new video comes after the U.S. and Israel launched strikes on Iran, in a military operation dubbed Operation Epic Fury. Trump has been widely criticized over the war in Iran, and social media users are regularly levelling criticism at his children and the children of other politicians, with the#sendbarron, trending shortly after the war began.

As civilian and military personnel casualties continue to rise with the war now in its 10th day, the online environment is increasingly tense and conversations about people’s concerns over the war are continually playing out online.

What To Know

The video showed Kai showing her followers what it’s like to shop at Erewhon and saw her purchase multiple items, including the store’s popular $22 Hailey Bieber-inspired strawberry smoothie and a $128 Erewhon sweatshirt, leading her to joke that she is “about to go bankrupt.”

Then she purchased more items, including a $12.95 bottle of water, a jar of dates for $16, and a plate of sushi for $19.99, leading her to joke again that she is “gonna have to file for bankruptcy.”

The video has not landed well.

The content creator and host of A Bit Fruity podcast, Matt Bernstein, wrote in a post on X, “it genuinely sometimes feels like they are trying to usher in a french revolution.”

The account @Mollyploofkins meanwhile wrote, “While American service members die in her grandfather’s war, Kai Trump brags about making her taxpayer-funded Secret Service follow her around while she shops.”

There has been little support for Kai in the wake of the video, with the rhetoric online skewing negative. There were some more conventional comments on her YouTube video about the video and its content. One read “I love how honest you are about how bad it is. Most other influencers just jump on the bandwagon,” while another commented, “Wow that security of yours !! Mind blowing.”
