Scuderia Ferrari Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton has reportedly responded to Fernando Alonso’s Singapore Grand Prix rant through a funny video, trolling the two-time world champion and reminding fans about their rivalry.

Alonso’s startling radio reaction made news after the brakes on Hamilton’s SF-25 F1 car had failed in the last few laps of the race. The setback occurred when he was chasing Andrea Kimi Antonelli for fifth place. To avoid crashing his car, the seven-time world champion stopped pushing, leading his teammate Charles Leclerc to pass him for a P6 finish.

On the last lap, Hamilton came under attack from Alonso, who was closing the gap of around 45 seconds rather quickly. Hamilton even resorted to going off track on tight corners to avoid crashing as he tried pulling away from Alonso. Despite finishing the race before the Aston Martin driver, the Briton attracted a five-second penalty for exceeding track limits, dropping him from P7 to P8.

But what came as a surprise for many was Alonso’s reaction on the team radio while chasing Hamilton. He said:

“I cannot believe it. I cannot f***ing believe it. I cannot f***ing believe it! I mean, I cannot f***ing believe it. I cannot f***ing believe it. Is it safe to drive with no brakes!?”

The Spaniard was surprised by Hamilton’s track limits violations, questioning if he should be driving at all with no brakes. In response to his rant, the 40-year-old shared a clip from the 90s sitcom One Foot in the Grave on his Instagram story, with the actor repeatedly saying, “I don’t believe it.”

In the same story, Hamilton wrote at the bottom, “18 years of…” which likely highlights the period since their rivalry ignited in 2007, during Hamilton’s debut F1 season when he became Alonso’s teammate at McLaren.

Speaking of the penalty the Ferrari driver was handed, F1’s governing body, the FIA, stated that Hamilton’s argument of going off track to manage his brake failure situation was not justifiable. The stewards stated:

“During the hearing, the driver confirmed that he left the track at several occasions. He was trying to manage a brakes issue situation.

“This being said, after further investigation, and in accordance with the list of exemptions foreseen in the Driving Standards Guidelines, the Stewards considered that this was not a justifiable reason and apply the usual penalty for such type of infringement. This was not contested by the team representative nor the driver.”
