McDonald’s is reigniting nostalgia and seasonal excitement by reviving its iconic Happy Meal Boo Buckets across the United States for Halloween.

McDonald’s limited edition buckets have been a Halloween staple since their debut nearly 40 years ago. After several hiatuses, the buckets returned in 2016, 2022, and 2023.

The Boo Buckets were first released in 1986 as a creative way to make Happy Meals a central part of childhood Halloween celebrations. Not only is it a fun, spooky container for a favorite fast-food meal, but the plastic buckets can also be reused for trick-or-treating.

The return of the Boo Buckets also highlights McDonald’s strategy of utilizing limited-time offers to boost customer engagement in a competitive fast-food market, particularly as value-seeking consumers seek affordable and entertaining dining options.

What To Know

Starting October 21, McDonald’s customers can once again receive Boo Buckets as part of their Happy Meal purchase. This year’s lineup includes the classic Halloween characters Ghost, Pumpkin, and Goblin, alongside two new additions: Cat and Zombie. Each bucket features a unique design, accompanied by Halloween-themed stickers, inviting fans to collect and personalize their buckets.

These seasonal buckets are available only while supplies last at participating locations.

In other Happy Meal news, September saw McDonald’s release a collaboration with K-pop superstars BTS, featuring TinyTAN characters inspired by the beloved seven-member boy band.

Additionally, McDonald’s has reinstated the Extra Value Meals with reduced pricing and more options, including a $5 Sausage McMuffin with Egg meal and an $8 Big Mac meal, in an effort to keep customers visiting during a time when the high cost of living remains a concern.

These efforts are complemented by global updates, such as new rules for Happy Meal sales in Japan following chaotic product launches, demonstrating McDonald’s continued focus on customer experience.
