Michigan State All-American point guard Jeremy Fears announced that he’s returning to East Lansing, much to the relief of Tom Izzo and the Spartans.
Fears is officially removing his name from the NBA draft to come back to MSU for his redshirt junior season, the player announced on social media late on Wednesday, May 20.
Fears really took things down to the wire. Players had a deadline of 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday to stay in the draft or elect to play in college another year.
Fears declared for the draft in April but retained his college eligibility. He participated in the NBA draft combine earlier this month, and while his performance was impressive at the week-long event, it wasn’t enough to get him into the first round of the draft. That’s why he’s coming back to MSU.

Speaking with BTN at the Combine (via MLive), Fears said he was making his decision based on being a first-round pick. His younger brother, Jeremiah Fears, went at No. 7 overall to the Pelicans last year. Since Fears was largely projected to be a second-round pick, many believe he’ll make more money at Michigan State this season.
Fears was measured at 6-foot-0 barefoot with a 6-4 wingspan at the Combine. During the 2026 season, he’ll work on his shooting and defense to move up in the draft for next year.

Now that Fears is back with the Spartans, it appears Izzo’s 2026 lineup is set. There’s no doubt that Izzo and the rest of the MSU men’s basketball staff is beyond relieved that Fears is back.
