North Carolina wants to win, and that’s all.
The Tar Heels board members and boosters might have shed a few tears when they let go of one of their own in Hubert Davis after consecutive first-round exits from March Madness, but that’s what it means to be a part of North Carolina basketball.
Above friendship, winning matters the most.
So with the Tar Heels on the hunt for their next head coach to try and bring them back to national relevance, odds have shifted by the day on who the favorite is to take over the helm in Chapel Hill.
For the past few days, it had been Tommy Lloyd, the current head coach of the Arizona Wildcats, who seemed to be the odds-on leader to leap across the country to pick up the Tar Heels’ job.

The former Florida Gators coach who took them to back-to-back national titles two decades ago might be ready to return to college basketball following stints with the Oklahoma City Thunder and now the Bulls.
The Bulls were officially eliminated from playoff contention yesterday, and now Donovan is rumored to be interested in returning to school as a Tar Heel.
Although he signed a multiyear extension with the Bulls last year, North Carolina has already shown that money won’t be an issue in its hunt to get back to the top of the hierarchy.
