A cinematic look at the life of Randy “Macho Man” Savage is one step closer to becoming a reality. The production company co-owned by “Saturday Night Live” star Kenan Thompson is developing a movie based on a script written by the late Lanny Poffo, Savage’s brother.

The working title for the project is “MACHO.” The news was first revealed by Deadline on Tuesday.

A “Macho Man” Movie

Artists for Artists, the production company run by Kenan Thompson and John Ryan Jr., is developing the film. The script was co-written by Poffo, who passed away in 2023, and Eric Shapiro. No timeline or attached talent for the film have been announced, and it is not yet known if it will be a theatrical or streaming release.

Thompson, who is a lifelong fan of the former WWE and WCW champion, expressed his excitement for the project. “Beyond excited for this one!! Macho Man is hands down one of the greatest of all time and can’t wait to bring his story to the screen!!!” he told Deadline.

The “Macho Man” Legacy

Randy Savage was one of the most iconic and charismatic superstars in the history of professional wrestling. His flamboyant, sequined outfits, his gravely, intense promos, and his signature “Ohhh yeah!” catchphrase made him a global pop culture icon. His high-flying, athletic in-ring style was ahead of its time and produced some of the greatest matches of all time, including his legendary Intercontinental Championship match against Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat at WrestleMania III.

Savage was a multi-time world champion in both WWE and WCW. His on-screen and real-life relationship with his manager, Miss Elizabeth, was one of the most celebrated and emotional stories of the 1980s. He tragically passed away in May 2011 at the age of 58 after suffering a heart attack while driving. He has been the subject of numerous documentaries, but this will be the first feature film based on his incredible life and career.
