An Arizona couple is facing the heat after authorities alleged they drunkenly led their young children on an arduous walk in stifling 108-degree temperatures.
Witnesses saw Ryan and May Mullin walking their two kids, ages 2 and 4, in Glendale around 6 p.m. on Sunday in the scorching heat, KBTX reported.
The family had been walking for about three hours after leaving an Arizona Cardinals practice at State Farm Stadium, May reportedly told authorities.
The family was first spotted by a concerned driver, who told Glendale Police she decided to step in after witnessing Ryan fall over one of his own kids and cross a road without his family, cops said.
The good Samaritan rolled up to the family and offered them a ride to beat the heat, the witness said.
Ryan got angry and punched the vehicle – which led to him knocking himself over and injuring his face, police said.
According to law enforcement, the witness said May appeared drunk and may have also been vomiting.
A police officer then said he saw the wobbly-footed father attempting to cross the street with his child and tried to stop them.
The dad ignored the officer’s commands to stop, grabbing his child by the wrist and refused to let go, police said.
The apparently intoxicated Ryan eventually let go of his kid’s hand, but only after the officer threatened to use force, cops said.
Officers said the two had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and reeked of alcohol.
May told officers that her kids drank two bottles of water, according to court documents, but police said one of those bottles was still half full.
The husband and wife were then booked on child abuse charges.
Neither Ryan nor May could be reached for comment.
