A Perth father has been accused of being high on nangs when he crashed his car into a tree near Midland last month, killing his two young daughters and seriously injuring his partner.

Jean Luckoo, 24, has been charged with dangerous driving causing death over the deaths of his three-year-old and four-year-old daughters who were passengers in the Ford Territory he was driving when he veered off the road and crashed into a tree.

The incident occurred on Muriel Street in Viveash on April 17, in a 50km/h zone.

The children were rushed to Perth Children’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries, but both died nine days later when their life support was turned off.

Luckoo and his partner, a 24-year-old woman who is the children’s mother, were taken to Royal Perth Hospital with serious injuries.

On Tuesday, Luckoo, from Caversham, appeared in Midland Magistrates Court where prosecutors alleged there was CCTV footage of him inhaling nitrous oxide from a balloon prior to veering off the road and into a tree.

The court heard major crash investigators allegedly found no evidence to support that Luckoo used the vehicle’s brake or attempted to steer away from the tree before he crashed, supporting allegations that he was not fully conscious at the time of impact.

Prosecutors also alleged that the children were not properly strapped in.

Luckoo’s partner received spinal injuries in the crash, resulting in multiple surgeries. He has been charged with driving dangerously causing bodily harm in relation to those injuries.

She was present in court on Tuesday to support him.

Police claimed they located a bottle of nitrous oxide in the vehicle after the crash, along with balloons.

Luckoo’s driver’s licence was suspended at the time of the crash, after losing it the year prior for driving recklessly.
