A New York property owned by comedian Pete Davidson has caught the internet’s attention after being listed for sale, with social media users zeroing in on an unexpected detail inside the house.
The four-bedroom residence in North Salem, listed for almost $2.3 million, was shared in a Reddit post by user TheSamLowry, where it earned praised not just for its design and amenities, but for a piece of wall art that some found amusing.
The listing describes a sprawling estate set on six acres, featuring a renovated 1930s dwelling with vaulted ceilings, panoramic views and a range of luxury additions.
Private Retreat
According to the property listing, the home offers, “sun-filled rooms with vaulted ceilings” and a “dramatic Great Room with floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace,” along with amenities including a sauna, wine cellar and lap pool.
The secluded setting and extensive upgrades reflect Davidson’s effort to create a private retreat outside New York City.
The listing aligns with details reported by Realtor.com, which noted that the comedian and actor bought the home in 2023 for $1.95 million and is now selling it to be closer to family on Staten Island.
“It’s literally like living in paradise,” Davidson said in an interview with Realtor.com.
“The thing I hated about living in the city all the time was, I would wake up to so much noise… In North Salem, I would wake up naturally and I wouldn’t feel a thing. It was the most special feeling.”
Despite the tranquil appeal, much of the online discussion has focused on a decorative quote displayed inside the home—commonly attributed to writer Charles Bukowski—which appears styled in a way that some viewers found at odds with its tone.
“I think the ‘Live, Laugh, Love’ style version of the Bukowski quote in the living room is really funny,” one Reddit contributor declared, referencing the phrase, “Find what you love and let it kill you.”
Quote Origin Debated
Others in the thread debated the quote’s origins.
“Not to be pedantic, but I’m a huge Buk guy and as far as I know, although this quote is widely credited to him, it’s never actually been proven to be his quote,” a pundit replied.
“Apparently Kinky Friedman is the actual source of the quote.”
Beyond the wall art, smaller details in the listing photos also caught the attention of eagle-eyed fans.
“He’s got both of the Pee wee’s Playhouse box sets on VHS! I’m jealous,” a commentator added, highlighting the eclectic nature of the interior.
Davidson himself has spoken about his attachment to the property, describing it as his, “hip, funky, cool place.”
He also emphasized the home’s character compared to more contemporary builds, saying, “I’m not a big fan of modern houses because they all kind of look the same, just kind of soulless and white. I added little things to it while still keeping its integrity and charm.”
The property, located about 90 minutes from NYC, includes features such as a guesthouse, gym and even a hidden speakeasy.
While the amenities and privacy have clear appeal, the viral discussion shows how even small design choices—like a framed quote—can shape how a listing is received online.
Davidson has also been selling other properties, including a Staten Island condo, as he shifts closer to family life following the birth of his daughter in late 2025.
Newsweek has reached out to representatives of Pete Davidson for comment via email.
