The New York Yankees have already lost Luke Weaver and Devin Williams to the New York Mets this offseason, but is there another Yankee on the Mets’ radar?

The Mets lost Pete Alonso to the Baltimore Orioles in free agency, and could be looking for options to play first base. They signed Jorge Polanco, who figures to see most of the work there for the first time in his career. Last season, he was primarily a designated hitter.

The Yankees have two players in free agency who could help the Mets out at first base: Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt. The Yankees have reportedly been pursuing Bellinger, and he is more valuable as an outfielder. However, Goldschmidt is the ideal candidate to split first base and designated hitter duties with Polanco.

Prediction: Goldschmidt follows Weaver and Williams to Queens and signs a one-year, $12 million deal with the Mets

Goldschmidt had a stellar start to the season, looking like an MVP. However, Father Time soon caught up to the 38-year-old, but he still finished the season with a .274/.328/.403 slash line. He had a .287/.345/.431 slash line with eight home runs in the first half of the season, compared to a .245/.289/.342 slash line with two home runs in the second half.

The former National League MVP is no longer the same player he once was. However, he can still be a solid player. He was abysmal in the month of July last season, but he was not a bad player for most of the season. At this point in his career, he could be a solid bench bat or platoon in a designated hitter role.

He would not be an overly expensive addition to the Mets and is likely open to signing another one-year deal. He would join a long list of ex-Yankees to sign with the Mets.
