President Donald Trump expressed concern and sympathy for Tiger Woods following reports of the golf star’s DUI arrest and rollover car crash in Jupiter, Florida.

“I feel so bad. He’s got some difficulty,” Trump, 79, told reporters when asked about the incident on Friday, March 27. “There was an accident, and that’s all I know.”

“A very close friend of mine, he’s an amazing person, an amazing man,” Trump continued. “But some difficulty. I don’t want to talk about it.”

Trump and Woods, 50, have played golf together and reconnected on several occasions, last in 2025 at a White House meeting involving PGA Tour and LIV Golf officials. Trump also notably presented Woods with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2019. Furthermore, Woods’ girlfriend is Vanessa Trump, the ex-wife of Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr. (Vanessa and her daughters Kai, 18, and Chloe, 11, were not in the car at the time of the accident on Friday, a source told Page Six.)

Woods was charged with DUI on Friday, causing property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test stemming from the crash that took place just before 2 p.m. local time.

The athlete is being held in Martin County Jail after being arrested. Woods was behind the wheel of a Land Rover when he clipped a pickup truck pulling a small trailer, according to Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek, who confirmed the impact caused Woods’ SUV to roll onto its side.

“Our DUI investigators came to the scene here. And Mr. Woods did exemplify the signs of impairment,” Budensiek said, noting that Woods appeared to be driving erratically leading up to the collision.

“The pressure cleaner truck pulling a trailer, a small trailer, was northbound on South Beach Road and was pulling kind of to turn into a driveway,” Budensiek explained about the chain of events. “It was slowing down, starting to turn into a driveway and the driver of that vehicle looked in his mirror and saw a Land Rover, a dark-colored Land Rover, overtaking him at high speeds. And I don’t know those speeds.”

Budensiek said the Land Rover driver was “able to crawl out the passenger door” and was “identified to be Mr. Tiger Woods.”

As for his involvement, “[Woods] was careful in what he said and didn’t say,” according to Budensiek. “Woods did a breathalyzer test, blew triple zeros, but when it came time for us to ask for a urinalysis test, he refused, and so he’s been charged with DUI.”
