Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett gushed over controversy magnet Chris Brown in a cringe-inducing fan girl moment as she gave him a congressional recognition at a local concert on Saturday.
Crockett, a Democrat who was beat in a party primary for US Senate earlier this year, gave a congressional proclamation to Brown and tour mate Usher as the pair performed at AT&T Stadium outside Dallas.
“We are here because of Chris Brown!” Crockett is seen shouting in a video of the announcement, as a grinning Brown stood on stage to rapturous applause from the crowd.
Crockett was joined by State Rep. Venton Jones and music producer RoccStar as she announced the honor, which entered Brown and Usher in the Congressional Record, celebrating the two artist’s impact.
“We are experiencing Black joy at the highest level. And I wanted to make sure we document that at the congressional level. So let’s give it up again for Chris Brown,” Crockett said.
Brown, who Crockett called “a real one,” is then seen hugging the congresswoman, before thanking her for the honor.
“I appreciate all the love. You know I f–k with y’all for real,” Brown said in thanks to Crockett as she walked off stage.
The award given to Brown appears to make no mention of the singer’s legal troubles, which infamously included a 2009 guilty plea for a vicious beating of his then-girlfriend Rihanna.
The “Look at Me Now” singer has also run into issues with the law since, having been booked for allegedly smashing a bottle over a music producer’s head in a nightclub in 2023, which he later pleaded guilty to, ABC reported.
Crockett, who handed Brown the award, recently lost the Democratic primary for Senate in Texas against Rep. James Talarico.
A representative from Crockett’s office did not respond to request for comment.
