WASHINGTON — For the first time, a mainstream poll has pegged New Jersey Republican gubernatorial contender Jack Ciattarelli in a dead heat with Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ), after months of surveys consistently showing the Democrat with a massive lead.

Both Ciattarelli and Sherrill notched 43% support apiece, with 14% unsure or rooting for someone else, a stunning new Emerson College Polling/PIX11/The Hill survey found.

The shock poll shows that the race has dramatically tightened as it enters the homestretch.

It comes shortly after Ciattarelli’s campaign unveiled a suite of TV ads, including ones that spotlighted Sherrill struggling with a question about her legislative priorities.

“Wow!!! A just out poll has Jack Ciattarelli essentially beating close to incompetent Mike Sherrill in the race for Governor of New Jersey,” President Trump remarked on Truth Social.

“Jack is tough on crime and cutting taxes, two things that people really demand today. He will be a GREAT Governor.”

Most polling still shows Sherrill in the lead. She has a 6.6 percentage point advantage in the latest RealClearPolitics aggregate of polling.

Notably, outgoing Gov. Phil Murphy had a 7.8 point lead in RCP before Election Day in 2021.

But the aggregate underestimated Ciattarelli’s support by about 5 points.
