The day Sacha de Waart-Hottart and his parents arrived in Australia following the tragic death of his brother, slain Victoria Police officer Senior Constable Vadim de Waart-Hottart, he saw a double rainbow in the sky.

He said he knew it was his brother showing him that he was still with him, even in death.

Sacha de Waart-Hottart started his eulogy describing his brother as “my hero and my protector”.

He told hundreds of mourners about how his older brother used to climb into his crib every morning and fill it with every stuffed toy he could find.

“All my brother ever wanted to do is make people happy, make people love,” he said.

“He was my very own superhero, he was my Batman.”

He said his brother lived his life to make others happy and was always ready with a funny story to tell or pun to say to make people smile.

“No matter what he was doing, he always had a contagious smile,” he said.

You couldn’t help but smile when you saw his brother’s face, he said.

Sacha said when his brother joined Victoria Police he gained more than 23,000 new brothers and sisters in blue.

“He found another way to keep protecting everyone he could,” he said.

He said he wanted Vadim to be remembered for the person he was and how he lived, not how he died.

He wanted him to be remembered for his bright, perfect, blue eyes that matched the colour of the ocean and the sky.

“When you see a ray of sunshine or when you see a rainbow think of my brother,” he said.
