Sickening twist after man shot dead Navy sailor girlfriend and her homeless lover amid love triangle

A jealousy-stricken man accused of gunning down his Navy sailor girlfriend and her homeless lover in San Diego has also been accused of sexually abusing children.

Prosecutors charged Ryan Wesley Proffitt, 33, with the sexual abuse of two different children just days after he was charged with the double murder.

Proffitt has now been slapped with 16 charges related to the two children, including sexual intercourse and oral copulation with a child aged 10 or younger and forcible lewd acts upon a child under the age of 14. 

The abuse allegedly took place between 2020 and 2025. San Diego prosecutors said the crime is not related to the murders and the cases are being treated as separate.

One of the charges also includes felony child abuse, which means Profitt allegedly caused great bodily harm to a child. Profitt has pleaded not guilty to the child abuse charges.

The new development comes weeks after he allegedly murdered his Navy sailor girlfriend Courtney Chandler, 28, and her homeless lover Nicholas McClure, 27.

Chandler had moved the man into the couple’s house as part of an open relationship agreement. But Profitt grew jealous and gunned down the pair in a “lovers’ quarrel,” he told 911 operators.

McClure had been living in the couple’s home for about a week and a half before the alleged killings.

Prosecutors say Profitt planned the murders, loading a firearm and concealing it as he confronted Chandler and McClure about their relationship.

The sailor appeared to be aware that her boyfriend had a gun, sending a text message to a friend about it, according to prosecutors.

McClure charged at Proffitt during a confrontation, with Proffitt firing at him three times, authorities said. He then turned the gun on Chandler.

After Proffitt called 911, police found him sitting on the steps at the military complex drinking a beer.

Proffitt pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder Thursday and is being held without bail.

A GoFundMe campaign launched for Chandler described the Navy sailor as a “sister, daughter, granddaughter, and so much more.”
