Today’s Elite 8 battle between Tennessee (6) and Michigan (3) features two of the most physical teams in the country in a battle to represent the Midwest Region in the Final Four.

The Wolverines, who have been a national title favorite since November, are heavily favored in today’s matchup, but it will be interesting to see how Michigan handles one of the few teams in the country that is big enough to hold its own in the paint against Yaxel Lendeborg, Morez Johnson Jr. and Aday Mara.

After upsetting 3-seed Virginia in the Round of 32 and 2-seed Iowa State in the Sweet 16, can star point guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie and the Volunteers pull off another stunner at United Center in Chicago?

Best Tennessee vs. Michigan Player Prop Bet

Nate Ament 2+ Made 3-Pointers (+100 at DK, bet365) — 0.5 units

Against Michigan’s massive front line, I’m expecting more 3-point attempts than usual from star Tennessee freshman Nate Ament, who averages 4.0 3PA per game.

There’s no denying that he’s been streaky from outside this season.

He’s made just 34 percent of his 3-pointers this year, and he has finished with no made 3-pointers in five of his last 11 games. He’s coming off a great night from downtown against Iowa State, though (3-for-4), and he should get several looks against a Michigan team whose opponents take 43 percent of their field-goal attempts from 3-point range.

All seven players for Alabama who played significant minutes in the Tide’s Sweet 16 loss to Michigan took at least three 3-pointers. Three Bama players, including 6-foot-10 forward Aiden Sherrell (2-for-5 from 3) knocked down at least two of them. Michigan also gave up 10 3-point attempts to Saint Louis F Robbie Avila, who went 3-for-10 from deep in the Round of 32.

While Bama’s 3-point-heavy system had a lot to do with that, Michigan’s excellent interior defense (the Wolverines are No. 6 in effective field goal percentage defense and No. 2 in 2-point field goal percentage D) was a big reason the Tide took 47 of their 69 shots from outside.

Latest Tennessee vs. Michigan Injury News

Michigan remains without sharpshooting backup guard L.J. Cason, but he is the only key contributor for either team who is listed on the NCAA DI Men’s Basketball Player Availability Report.

I don’t have a hot take on this game: like most analysts, and bettors, I think Michigan’s size and ability to get up and down will be too much, again. Tennessee is big enough to keep this one close for a while, especially if the Vols can once again rack up offensive rebounds and second-chance points. That’s a huge if against the best front line in the country, though.

To me, the most likely outcome in this game is Tennessee — which is ranked No. 142 in effective field goal percentage, No. 147 in 2-point FG percentage and No. 169 in 3-point FG percentage — struggling mightily to score, especially if it’s unable to enjoy its usual advantage on the offensive glass.

In addition to taking Michigan to advance, I like the Wolverines to cover and hold Tennessee under its team total of 68.5.

Prediction: Michigan to advance

Best bets against the spread:

  • MICH -8 (best odd: -110 at bet365) — 1 unit
  • TENN TT u68.5 (best odds: -104 at FD) — 1 unit
