New reports have surfaced regarding the status of Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. The former AEW Women’s World Champion is reportedly seeking to part ways with the company.

According to Mark (@WrestleMobs) of BodySlam.net, Baker wants out of her AEW contract. However, the report states that AEW is not currently looking to grant her a release.

Baker Reportedly Unhappy In AEW

Sources close to the situation claim Baker feels there is nothing left for her in the promotion. The report cites “burned bridges and a sense that the environment has changed around her” as reasons for her desire to leave.

While she may want out, WWE is reportedly not an option at this time. Viper (@ViperReports) has indicated that WWE is not currently showing interest in signing Baker, and her name has not been discussed internally.

This has resulted in a standstill between the two sides.

Backstage Issues Sidelined The Star

Baker’s prolonged absence from television is reportedly due to a backstage altercation late last year. The incident is said to have involved MJF.

The confrontation allegedly began after Baker was overheard complaining about the TV time given to a match between MJF and Will Ospreay. This led to a heated exchange between Baker and MJF, which reportedly resulted in her being suspended.

Tony Khan’s reported frustration over the incident is a primary reason she has been kept off television. Baker is a “pillar” of AEW and one of the most important figures in the history of its women’s division.

She first gained critical acclaim for her brutal and groundbreaking Unsanctioned “Lights Out” match against Thunder Rosa in March 2021. The bout, which was the first time women main-evented Dynamite, put the entire division on the map.

Two months later, she defeated Hikaru Shida to begin a 290-day reign as the AEW Women’s World Champion, establishing herself as the division’s top star.

In 2022, she made history again by winning the inaugural Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament. Through her “Role Model” character work and high-profile matches, Baker was instrumental in building and legitimizing the AEW women’s division. Should Baker come available, it will be interesting to see if WWE comes calling.
