An international tourist is fighting for her life in hospital after sustaining “life-threatening” injuries when she crashed her bike on Rottnest Island earlier this week.

The 38-year-old was flown by the RAC rescue helicopter to Royal Perth Hospital after crashing about 5pm on Tuesday.

Emergency services rushed to Digby Drive in the main Thomson Bay area of the island after being alerted to the tourist’s crash.

“Police and Rottnest Island Nursing Post staff attended and located a 38-year-old woman who had sustained serious, life-threatening head injuries,” a WA Police spokesperson said.

9News Perth reported the woman had a helmet with her, however it was unclear if she was wearing it at the time of the crash.

The woman remains in a critical condition in hospital on Friday morning.
