We are less than a week away from the transfer portal officially opening and disrupting the entire college football landscape, and there’s one veteran quarterback who has dozens of schools turning their heads.

For programs across the country wanting to pull an Indiana and find their own Fernando Mendoza to lead them to College Football Playoff glory, Cincinnati’s Brendan Sorsby might be the missing piece to put them over the top.

Sorsby, a big, bruising QB that can win with his arm as well as his legs, is not a player that needs to be developed when he signs in the transfer window. He’s the type of player you plug into a consistent system with good players around him and watch him lead you to success.

A former Hoosier himself, he transferred to Cincy two years ago and hasn’t looked back. Over his four years, he’s thrown for 7,208 yards and added another 1,305 on the ground with a total of 82 touchdowns.

While a reconnection with Indiana would make sense with Mendoza almost assuredly declaring for the 2026 NFL Draft, it’s not where I think Sorsby will end up.

He’s going to a school playing in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals that wears red, but it’s not the Hoosiers.

Prediction: Brendan Sorsby signs with the Texas Tech Red Raiders

Let’s not try to overthink this one, shall we?

From Texas, he would be taking a massive step forward, moving from the Bearcats to a stable program that just locked up its entire primary staff for the next few years. He can step into a situation where he can challenge for a national title in his final year and raise his draft stock for the 2027 selection.

Also, in his personal life, his significant other, Gretchen Sigman, is a volleyball player who recently transferred to the Red Raiders, and he publicly supported her move on Instagram.

Perfect place. Perfect placement. Perfect partnership for Sorsby and Texas Tech.

The transfer portal officially opens on Jan. 2, 2026.
