Tucker Carlson said he will be “tormented” by his support for President Donald Trump “for a long time,” telling Americans: “I want to say I’m sorry for misleading people, it was not intentional.”
Podcaster Tucker Carlson, who was once a loyal Trump supporter, made the comments during his most recent podcast episode which featured his brother Buckley Carlson, who wrote speeches for Trump in 2015.
Tucker Carlson told his brother: “You and I, and everyone else who supported him, I mean you wrote speeches for him, I campaigned for him – I mean we’re implicated in this for sure. It’s not enough to say ‘well I changed my mind’ or like ‘oh, this is bad I’m out.’”
“In very small ways, but in real ways, you and me and millions of people like us are the reason this is happening right now,” he said.
“So, I do think it’s a moment to wrestle with our own consciences,” he added, “you know, we’ll be tormented by it for a long time – I will be. And I want to say I’m sorry for misleading people, it was not intentional, that’s all I’ll say.”
The rupture between Trump and Carlson has become one of the most visible splits within the MAGA movement, namely over wars in the Middle East and Trump’s relationship with Israel.
Trump recently called Carson a “low IQ person” who is “highly overrated,” while Carlson has called the president a “slave” who “can’t make his own decisions.”
This is a developing story – more to follow.
