A gray tuxedo cat was caught on camera napping in an unusual position, and the footage has left social media users in stitches.

The viral video shared on TikTok on Friday by @helloitsjjlynn, shows the feline on the couch, sleeping on top of a yellow towel, with his body in a loaf position and his head pressed down on the towel.

As his owner gets closer to him, laughing at the unusual way he sleeps, the cat immediately wakes up, giving her a look of disappointment, like he’s mad that she accidentally woke him up.

“My cat is such a mood,” the poster writes in the caption.

Cats sleep between 12 to 20 hours a day, and their sleeping positions can reveal a lot about their emotions and environment. An article previously shared by Newsweek explains that cats’ sleeping postures can communicate comfort, alertness, or even stress.

The curled-up position is most common, reflecting a natural instinct to conserve heat and stay protected. When cats sleep with half-closed eyes, it shows they’re resting while staying alert, a remnant of their predatory nature.

The “bread loaf” position, with paws tucked under, suggests a cat is relaxed but still cautious and ready to move.

Cats that sleep on their sides or on their backs with their bellies exposed feel secure and trusting of their environment. Paws covering the face is a “do not disturb” sign.

Cuddling with humans or other animals signals affection and a desire for warmth and protection. You can learn more about cat sleeping positions here.

The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 3.6 million views and 975,800 likes on TikTok.

One user, _kristen.elise, commented: “My cat does the same but against the couch.”

Tyler said: “I’m convinced this is gray cat behavior now, I thought it was just my Lynk.”

Nanodebx added: “Veterinarian here, and I can assure you this is very dangerous. When cats lie down like this, they are actually praying and trying to summon powerful entities, so at any moment they might simply attempt global domination.”

Newsweek reached out to @helloitsjjlynn for comment via TikTok comments. We could not verify the details of the case.
