A video has captured a moment of profound friendship that transcends age and distance.
When a woman heard her decades-old best friend was unwell, she embarked on an unlikely journey just to be by her side, a gesture that has brought thousands to tears. One of the women’s granddaughters, Regan Grzesiak, 23, told Newsweek about their friendship and the video she took, which she posted to TikTok and which received over 1.2 million views.
“My grandma’s friend found out she wasn’t doing well and Uber-ed from another state to ‘have sleepovers like they used to,'” Grzesiak captioned the video. “If this isn’t me and my bestie, I don’t want it. I’m not crying, you are.”
A 23-Year Friendship
Grzesiak said the two women have been best friends for over two decades, meeting 23 years ago while working together in a middle school cafeteria.
Grzesiak’s grandma is currently on hospice care, and her friend had been wanting to visit for some time. Despite not having a car and facing transportation challenges, she was resolute in seeing her friend.
“She was determined to make the trip once she heard how serious things had become,” Grzesiak said. “After learning from my mom that my grandmother wasn’t doing well, her friend immediately knew she needed to be there.”
A Bedside Reunion
When the friend finally arrived, the moment was incredibly emotional.
“My grandma was completely shocked when she walked through the door, and, that weekend, she did better than she had in months,” Grzesiak said.
Now, her friend plans to visit every weekend to spend time with her and support Grzesiak’s mother.
Since her grandma has trouble leaving the house, Grzesiak said the friends have been spending their time doing simple, comforting activities. Grzesiak mentioned they spend their time watching all of her grandma’s favorite shows, including Wheel of Fortune, Judge Judy, and Family Feud on repeat. The night the video was filmed, Grzesiak brought over her grandma’s favorite Chinese food, which they are seen enjoying together.
The clip has led to many commenters expressing their admiration for the selfless act. Some have even offered to send money via Venmo to get the friends a gift card. For Grzesiak, witnessing their bond is deeply meaningful.
“It’s incredibly special,” she said. “Their friendship is something I deeply admire and hope to have in my own life, friends who stick by you and grow old with you no matter what.”
