A Texas woman couldn’t help but laugh when she saw the view from the balcony of the hotel room her boyfriend booked for a romantic getaway.
Amanda Frazier and her partner were staying at Drury Inn & Suites San Antonio near La Cantera Parkway. It was a surprise he organized for her at the last minute.
“I did not have a clue what hotel I’d be staying at,” Frazier told Newsweek. “My boyfriend booked it a week before Valentine’s Day so options were limited.”
Newsweek contacted Drury Inn & Suites for comment.
The biggest surprise was to come when Frazier opened the door leading to the “balcony” that came with their room. Getting a room with this outside space was her boyfriend’s idea. “He wanted to try the ‘terrace’ view room that had its own balcony,” Frazier said.
There was just one problem, though. The hotel was located near I-10 and Loop 1604.
That makes it an ideal stopover for anyone visiting Six Flags Fiesta Texas, The Shops at La Cantera, Topgolf, SeaWorld, and the University of Texas at San Antonio.
What it doesn’t make for, however, is especially romantic views. That was something that dawned on Frazier as they made their way up to the room. “Once we were in the elevator, I realized we had a [Loop] 1604-facing room,” she said.
Not that Frazier let it ruin her stay; quite the opposite in fact. “ I thought it was hilarious, and I still do,” she said.
So much so that Frazier decided to film a video showing others the view that greeted them from the balcony. She ended up posting the clip to her TikTok @amanda_is_done_, where it has now been watched over 4.8 million times.
“I posted the video because the view was ridiculously funny; nothing else,” Frazier said. “I didn’t expect the video to become a breeding ground for negative comments.”
Several fellow TikTok users took the comments to lament the view on offer.
One called it the “balcony of doom and despair,” while another wrote: “This is genuinely so sad I hate America.”
A third, meanwhile, commented: “saving this vid for the next time someone tries to hype up San Antonio.”
Frazier is blocking out the negativity from some commenters, though. “My response to the negative comments is honestly nothing,” she said. “I totally enjoyed the stay. The room was really spacious and clean, plus free breakfast and dinner each day that we stayed.”
It is likely that most other paying guests would echo those sentiments.
Last year, the 2025 J.D. Power North America Hotel Guest Satisfaction Study found that improved guest room condition, cleanliness, furnishings, and bathroom updates were key factors boosting guest satisfaction. Frazier’s hotel room ticked all those boxes.
Rooms with nice views are a bonus. After this stay, Frazier might argue that those with unusual views are better.
